Sock monkeys

It all starts with these triangle pieces that I was given, by someone who made a quilt, changed her mind on the colour of these triangles and went for something else.  Now, I've had these triangles for probably a couple years, sitting in a drawer and forgotten.  However, when I put my room back together recently, I found them and decided to add them to my list, so that they can get used and out of here.

Ideas.....sometimes they come easy and sometimes they don't....  I usually don't think too hard about it.  I let my mind work on it, in the background of everything else I'm doing.  These last couple of weeks the triangles kept popping up, so I knew I had to do something.....but what?  Do I do any of the numerous log cabin layouts with the triangles and some darker colour on the other side, similar to the layout below?

Or do I do something like this one below, where the triangles frame some sort of block in the middle?  Something like a bar quilt.  My mind was just looking for a layout that I wanted to do....

Yesturday, in the wee hours of the morning, when I was barely awake, it all became clear to me!!  I remembered a particular fabric that I had and from there everything just clicked into place.  The fabric I thought of was this brown, with large red polka dots, that I used in these nine patches.

This fabric is part of the sock monkey line of fabrics.  The white background fabric is also part of that line.  I bought these fabrics on clearance several years ago, but didn't know what I wanted to do with them.  They were marinating in the cupboard, waiting for there moment to come out and play.  That moment is now.

Here is how it is coming along so far.  Just getting started and I think I like the way it is turning out.

I think it was meant to be!  When I calculated how much of this brown with red polka dot fabric I needed, to complete the layout, I had just enough, with only one 2" strip left.  There are 25 nine patches in this quilt.  I managed to get 7 of them done yesturday.  The fabric is already all cut out, so today I will likely try and get the rest done after work.  Stay tuned for how I build this quilt out....I think it is going to be so cute!

Take care everyone.
